You thought it was over, you thought you’d seen the end You thought we’d agreed that we would just be friends But I’ve been going through your garbage like a filthy raccoon Digging for your heart with a platinum spoon Night after night ‘neath a cold yellow moon I’ve been going through your garbage Singing this lonely tune Well you told me you loved me, then you told me you were wrong But you’ve got a secret, I’ve known that all along So I’ve been going through your garbage like a pigeon from hell Looking for some crumbs with a story to tell I don’t like the feeling and I don’t like the smell I can tell from your garbage Life is going well Coz I’ve read your tea leaves I’ve swallowed your pills Your cigarette butts, potato peels I’ve counted your bottles I’ve rattled your cans I’ve tasted all your bones and rags I can’t find, the scraps and rind of our wasted love Like the burning insects around the candle flame You said my love was pointless and a shame So I’ve been going through your garbage like an army of flies Looking for a reason to hate and despise I’ve seen it in your soul and between your thighs The road through the fire Is burning in your eyes

You came along when my mind was open Coloured me with shock and awe You came for free when the world was charging Millions to unlock my door My father said you were rife with danger Evil to your blackened soul Your only sin was Word on a Wing And turning off your ground control Jones, soon too soon you’ve gone away People try to sell your work and life away Tell me that it’s not okay Five years was a wake up call But that was forty years ago Time takes a cigarette And lights it for another show Cut up at the thought of writing Everything I need to know Love you truly my brothers Bewlay Tell me on the next Bardot To live, shout at the sky Run to bedlam Give, some other guy Your words of wisdom Ashes to ashes You stay, and you won’t be sorry We long to be Just like me in our lovers’ story Day after day All our friends in their mansions grey The words that we sang When we dared to kiss the viper’s fang Jones, soon too soon you’ve gone away Tell me that it’s not okay

How’d we get to here? All my life it seems, was just a dream Until I stumbled clear Of the barricade, into that Golden Age austere You’ve got something to say that just can’t wait because We’re this far down the track Got something to prove but I can’t move until I get that feeling back Now my path is clear Back to the mountainside, we’ll catch a ride And there perchance to hear Something in the breeze, that’ll set you free Inside the mountain There was pace and grace and life And all was true And lot’s of things to do And when the piper Stopped the tune I thought that I Would get there soon

Take a boat from the willows Drift onto the lake Me pole guiding, gliding Your hand in our wake What lies under the water? Shall we dive in together Or shall we both suffer silence in our lie You once called me a warlock You were my wiccan wife Had no metal nor paper But we were bonded for life And life that comes after There’s a stone in my heart You’ve carved your art for all time On the night you caught me With your slow tease And the song you taught me Was the night breeze Blowing through my heart Tearing me apart Oh my white lady leaving For a cool place to sleep Alone with the darkness And the secret you keep And love cannot follow I reach down for your face The ripples race to the other side

Moving through the jungle with a million women swimmin’ in my mind Drifting through the treetops taking all the milk and honey I can find And I hurt and I grow It’s a crazy feel And I look and I find We can make this deal When the Black Prince comes around Creeping through the darkness I can see the mortals quiver in their holes Stripped of all their reason when I sense it’s open season on their souls I don’t pay for my prey I just make it bleed When I suck at the root I do more than feed When the Black Prince comes around And I look and I find We can make this deal And I hurt and I grow It’s a crazy feel And I look and I find We can make this deal When the Black Prince comes around

It’s time to go she told me with a face that seemed to turn to stone But in a while her hand slipped out of mine and I was on my own All of the times I wanted to start again All the times I wanted the world to end I looked around to see the bearded lady and the muscle men Out on the town until I hit the ground and found my feet again All of the times I wanted to start again All the times I wanted the world to end But please don’t end now Coz I never rode the coaster in the dark At the sick carnival What happens now I wondered as the side shows began to fade They took my hands and led me a tunnel in a dark parade Bought my ticket to the long, long journey down Took my medicine and ventured underground Taste that gravity it makes me feel so free But it’s the way we’ll always have to be

about

A kone is a zen lesson designed to light the path to enlightenment, but such things can be dangerously transformative. It is not wise to have too many kones in the one session.

As for transformation, it can happen in various ways – the transformation of mood for example when listening to music. We all understand the way songs can trigger memories and land us back in key moments of our lives. Songs get trapped in our hearts like insects in amber.

Music can also open doors – thoughts and images come unbidden to the listener. Mostly they wash over us but every now and then a word and a chord might strike a spark that sets us off on a whole new train of ideas – ideas not at all intended by the writer.

For example, a favourite song of ours had the line: We were so turned on in the mind warp pavilion.

We had pondered the meaning of that line for years, but only recently realised we had it wrong. The line actually goes: We were so turned on in the night walk pavilion.

We’re no closer to understanding the line but it conveyed a beautiful image.

And opened a number of doors…
